Featured here are more than 120 Japanese and Korean artists of the early 20th century, including Fujishima Takeji, Tsuchida Bakusen, Yamaguchi Hoshun, brothers Asakawa Noritaka and Takumi, Yamaguchi Takeo, Torii Noboru, Ko Hui-dong, Lee In-sung, Lee Jung-sup, Lee Kwae-dae, and Kim Byung-ki, who lived amidst social and historical contradictions. The stories hidden in each artist’s work are analyzed here anew and the deep connections between Japan and Korea in the development of modern art are brought to a fresh spotlight.
