Artists

Jim Lambie
The Glassgow-born artist Jim Lambie is known for his colorful sculptural installations made from everyday objects such as aluminum foil, mirrors, potato sacks, plastic bags, vinyl tape, and household paint. Evolving from a response to the psychology of space and color, his practice uses color in a way that is deeply rooted in color theory and specifically relates to the concept of synesthesia. Also a musician and DJ, Lambie often incorporates references to music and popular culture in his work, such as with the use of vinyl records, record players, and pop icons.

The artist will also transform the gallery with a new vinyl tape floor piece created with a palette of metallic colors, directing the viewer’s perception of the space and engulfing the senses with its rhythm. The exhibition will also present a unique opportunity to see one of the artist’s early video works, UltraLow (1998), which depicts the fragile firefly-like flickerings of cigarette butts in a pitch-black basement.
