The British Museum Exhibiton: A History of the World in 100 Objects

Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
Finished
The British Museum, a repository for the cultural treasures of humankind, houses a vast collection of art and artifacts from almost every world region and historical period. This exhibition tells a story of human creativity covering 2,000,000 years from prehistory to modern times through 100 items from the British Museum’s 7 million-strong collection. The exhibition will trace a history of human creativity from the Cradle of Humanity, where the world’s oldest stone tools were made, to contemporary global society through 100 objects selected from all eight departments of the British Museum’s collection. Visiting Japan will be artifacts of legendary fame, prominent even among the noted works in the collection, including the “Lewis Chessmen”, the “Standard of Ur” and a life-size replica of the Rosetta Stone.
