Artists

Eugène Carrière, Edmond Aman-Jean, Henri Le Sidaner, Emile Claus, Ernest Laurent et al.
This exhibition introduces the works of artists who were active in the art community in Paris in the early 20th century, including Eugène Carrière, Edmond-François Aman-Jean, and Henri Le Sidaner. These artists painted accessible and enchanting works that inherited the styles of impressionism and neo-impressionism of the previous century. Not being members of avant-garde art movements such as Fauvism and Cubism, their works have rarely been approached from an art-history perspective focusing on modernism. Nonetheless, the works, which depicted what the artists saw while capturing the poetic sentiments that were imbued in nature and objects, attained success both commercially and critically. These artists did in fact contribute to shaping the French art scene in the early 20th century. This exhibition displays approximately 80 works by about 20 artists who were members of La Société Nouvelle des Peintres et Sculpteurs, transport you to, and guiding you through early 20th century Paris.
