MOMAT Collection: What Are You Fighting For?

The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Yayoi Kusama, Taro Okamoto, Takashi Murakami, Isamu Noguchi, Yoshitomo Nara et al.
As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II this exhibition presents approximately 200 works intended to provoke thought around “fighting,” including conflicts between animals, nations, men and women, and those from different generations. With the title inspired by “Taga tame ni” (For Whom), the theme song of an animated TV show called “009 Cyborg” (1979-1980, second season) this exhibition also draws upon the art of popular culture and the ability to reflect upon the issues of war and peace through such media, posing us with important questions for 2015.
