Artists

Q Ei
Q Ei, who passed away at the age of 48 in 1960, can be described as an “artist of light.” He begun using a camera early in his career, later establishing a photogram technique in which he shined light directly onto photographic paper to create an image, an approach he called “photo dessin.” Q Ei created over 2,000 works over the course of his life, and his search for “light” is apparent in all of these creations, including his watercolors and oil paintings. With the pointillist works of his last years, he achieved his goal of becoming an “artist of light.”
Toki-no-Wasuremono has been hosting Q Ei exhibitions since its opening in 1995. Its 26th Q Ei show, which it has titled “Search for Light,” presents around 30 works including oil paintings, watercolors, and stencils used as materials for photo dessins, as well as the photo dessins themselves.
