If you fill the inside of a glove with resin and then take it out, a shape appears in a place where nothing existed. In this way we may say emptiness turns to substance. From the 1960s to the 1970s, many artists, taking ifluence from the phenomenology of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, considered how we as humans encounter the world through the relationship between emptiness and substance, self and object. Centering on a selection from the museum collection, this show will present 20 works including those of Okazaki Kazuo (b. 1930).
