Marianne Mueller
The Swiss photographer Marianne Mueller is best known for “Archive,” the collection of works she has created in her studio over the past 20 years. “Archive,” which contains all of her giant photographs, is also an experiment in revisiting, reconsidering, and discovering new images and combinations from her oeuvre.

In her first exhibition in Japan, she presents works that take inspiration from the venue’s unique spatial arrangements and pursue expressions that contrast with the white cube-like galleries of the past. In addition to exploring Japan’s spatial craftsmanship, these works reflect relative elements of Eastern and Western cultures, tradition and modernism, and the private and the public. Incorporating video, sound, and photography, this exhibition demonstrates relationships between matter and space with Japanese objects such as tabi socks and tatami. Its contents shake up our perceptions.
