Aokid
Aokid won Grand Prize in the 12th “1_WALL” Graphics Competition for his drawing-based installations. He won high acclaim for his unique worldview and for his continuous probing for new methods of expression that incorporate the physical sensation of dancing into his drawings.

Aokid began breakdancing around the age of 14. Today, his scope of activity has expanded to also include drawing and dance performance. He says that in seeking sources of creation he aims to transcend the respective boundaries of individual modes of expression: drawing, dance, music, etc. In his works one can find synchronicity between filling space with fanciful pictures created with free, unconstrained, colorful curves, and filling space with the body through the medium of dance. Aokid’s worldview is never closed: in the blank areas of his works one can find possibilities linked to the outer world, always open to others.

For this, his first solo show since winning the Grand Prize roughly a year ago, Aokid will create an imaginary city in which he likens the gallery to a stage on which to dance. Besides installations centering on new drawings, he will also exhibit his studies showing the processes by which he came up with his ideas for the exhibition’s display and for his specific works. Visitors will surely be entertained by what they see.
