Tabaimo
This exhibition marks the public debut of Tabaimo’s new animation “Aitaisei Josei” (Relative Women), which intersects the stories of “The Love Suicides at Sonezaki,” a masterpiece of Japanese puppet theater, and the Shuichi Yoshida novel “Villain.” Envisioning imaginary worlds, the work compares theoretical romances between the characters of “Sonezaki” and “Villian,” who appear in each episode.

Also displayed are seven new works in the drawing series “Flow-wer,” in which flowers and human organs are lustrously rendered in wax and black ink. Tabaimo remarks, “I think of this exhibition like picking a flower, using an organ as a vessel, or depicting a part of person’s life in a novel, painting, or film. I’ve selected only a piece of a larger whole, but I’m creating a work in its entirety, imagining the roots of the flower, the breath of the living organ, the continuing story of the person’s life.”
