For his first show in Japan, the Dutch photographer Paul Kooiker, who has held exhibitions in New York and around Europe, presents images created at the invitation of the Hague Museum of Photography taking a typological approach to the three motifs closest to his heart – nudes, animals, and cigars. Composed with painterly arrangements in sepia tones, these works are ironic takes on the paradox of “classic” photography, its meaning, and its authority.
