Ryo Owada Text is a sign. Assuming that we understand the same language, we might think that we all glean the same meaning from any given sign. However signs and words might shift their meaning significantly depending whom they are written by and with which medium. Moveable type allows for the uniform mass production of a letter/character, and might be said to be distanced from excessive information and associations. In this exhibition a series of works depicting the molds of moveable type are presented, combining the machinic austerity of its form with the warmth of something hand made, capturing that fleeting moment before a word becomes such.
