Photography is an increasingly ambiguous and complex field. Today the same device can be used to produce both photographs and movies, and photography and communications technology are directly linked. Amid this environment, Talion Gallery presents a photography-focused exhibition that re-examines the mechanical and technological system known as the camera and the various social phenomena centered around it or that use it as a medium.
From artists such as Dennis Oppenheim and Jiro Takamatsu practicing since the 1960s to up-and-coming talents, this exhibition presents the works of 12 international artists and four writers. Their works consider photography not only as expression, but also as the products of image-generating machines (cameras). In this world of abundant representations (images), what kind of discussions can cameras and their images spark? This and other questions posed by the exhibition are starting points for further contemplation of the ongoing developments and transformations of the camera and its political implications.
