Masahiro Satsuka

While renowned as the director of the National Museum Of Art, Okutama, Masahiro Satsuka is little known as an artist in his own right. If the truth be known, upon graduating from Musashino Art University in 2009 he failed to secure any opportunities of exhibition and took to supporting other artists while working through various part time jobs. But if we listen to the artists who have been associated with him, we hear numerous tales of crazy paths of thought and unprecedented episodes, from his enactment of a human clock in the fashion exhibition “rooms” in which he refrained from going to the toilet for 3 days, to the story of his repeated depiction of the same plant for one whole year of his studies at university. Satsuka is a figure of infinite energy and never ending spirit, grasping at numerous forms of expression including painting, manga, photography, video and performance. The logic defying work of Satsuka has laid in wait quietly for its time to come and here is unveiled in full mind-bending overload.
