This event has ended.

This exhibition presented at Vacant brings together the latest drawings by Paris-based artist Makoto Orui. In this exhibit, the artist uses a double-exposure technique similar to the works he displayed in his exhibit, Trash Weekend, at our venue in March of this year. As in his earlier works, the superposition of multiple photographic exposures into a single image produces a surreal effect, while the addition of new techniques including cake ink and vermilion ink drawings serves to express his unique worldview. The exhibit will feature 12 drawings on large, 50x65cm sketch paper, that overlay plants, jewelry, and seemingly familiar characters onto sensual and languorous sketches of nude women depicted with subtle brush strokes to produce a bewitching and humorous overall effect, as well as the three-dimensionality worthy of a sculpture. “Everything has beauty but not everyone can see it.” - Confucius. While beauty encompasses a myriad of objects, each brush stroke in this exhibit elicits the particular kind of beauty that Orui has sought consistently throughout his career.
