Shinpa is an exhibition of large scale work from students of Tokyo University of the Arts’ Design department, brought to audiences with the intention of building a “new wave” in what marks the 9th in this series of exhibitions. Breaking through the simple divisions of painting and nihonga the works on display here confuse our sense of genre and invite visitors to literally witness the development of young creators as they also unveil public “open studio” events.
