Artists

Olta
Olta is an artist collective who have come under the spotlight in recent years with their unique form of large-scale sculpture, installation and physical performance which combine Japanese traditions with contemporary subculture, with the group receiving the 2011 Okamoto Taro Award in recognition of their spirited work.

In 2013 they joined the exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, “Visceral Sensation - Voices So Far, So Near”, with an installation entitled “Organella” calling upon the life, memories and rhythms of the past in a bodily sculpture and joint performance. While in “Ghost of Modern”, produced during a residency in Germany in 2014, they travel between Berlin, Krakow, Auschwitz, Birkenau, Chernobyl and Kiev searching out dead spirits and pointing to the sacrifices of ideology brought about in the processes of modernization.

In this exhibition the team offer up an installation embodying the death of thought we encounter in the city which wipes out the presence of humanity, picking apart the layers of the human psyche and physical being within the fantasy of the metropolis.
