Artists

Hiroshi Hamaya
As Japan came to greet a period of rapid post-war development and television came to pervade households around the country, the speed, mobility and simultaneity of information placed a heavy impact upon photography, and it was amongst such conditions which Hiroshi Hayama sought out the possibilities of this expression. From the peaks of Everest and beyond, Hayama pursued with dedication the natural wonders of the world, while making penetrating observations of human life. In 1987 he was declared the winner of the nobel prize of photography “The Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography”. Here this exhibitions places a spotlight on Hayama’s examination of the rapid shifts of the Showa era and his earnest pursuit of what it means to live.
