Christiane Löhr
Christiane Löhr’s examination of form and space is achieved by material that is uncommon to the history of sculpture. She creates her sculptures with natural materials such as plant seeds, plant stems, horse hair and dog hair. Cushions of dandelion fluff, temples of ivy seeds, domes of grass stalks, bags of thistle seeds, cat’s cradle like forms of needles and horse hairs, delicate, unassuming sculptures transform on second glance into powerful constructions dominating the surrounding space.
Through a conversation between the material and its surrounding space, she explores mathematical laws, power systems, the order and structure behind this visible world that comes to establish nature and organic matter, trying to place a finger on what gives unity to this world. On this occasion she presents a selection of horse hair works, large works on paper with oil pastel and pencil drawings.
