Yasuda Yukihiko: A Retrospective

The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Yukihiko Yasuda
Yasuda Yukihiko (1884 – 1978), a masterly painter of Nihon-ga, Japanese-style painting, was predominantly famous for his great works on historical themes, including Camp at Kisegawa (Important Cultural Property, possession of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo), which he depicted the encounter scene of the Minamoto Brothers—Minamoto Yoritomo, who established the Samurai controlling regime in the 12th century for the first time in Japanese history and his brother, Minamoto Yoshitsune—at the battle field.

The exhibition will showcase over 100 masterpieces ranging from very popular works among many Japanese because of appearances in school text books and postal stamps, to those presented in public for the first time.
