The Anatomy of Colors

Meguro Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Kuniyoshi Utagawa, Inuki Tachihara et al.
The sixth research-based The Anatomy of Colors show looks at the rich variety of colors seen in Edo-period artworks. Focusing on opaque, inorganic hues with grainy qualities, such as blue-greens and vermilions, and translucent, organic shades of ochre yellow, “aobana” purplish-blues, “beni” crimsons, and indigo, this exhibition presents paintings and prints using pigments and other painting materials created with precise knowledge and skill.

*Some displays will be alternated during the exhibition period.
