Takehito Koganezawa
Spiral presents “Future of Smoke”, a new solo exhibition by Takehito Koganezawa at Spiral Garden (Spiral 1F) from September 13th to September 25th, 2016. Based in Berlin, Germany, since graduating from the Department of Imaging Arts and Sciences at Musashino Art University, Koganezawa is an internationally established artist. He works with video, drawing, installation, and performance, intuitively capturing the momentary changes of landscapes and minute incidents in the everyday, like an animal catching its prey. With its unique rhythms and rich colors, Koganezawa’s work surprises the viewer and breaks down stereotypes to offer us fresh realizations. This exhibition expands the scale of spinning clay sculptures previously exhibited by the artist in Germany, creating an even more dynamic installation as well as filling an entire wall with drawings of vast numbers of mountains. The venue features artificial exhibits that give unexpected movement and form to natural motifs such as clay and mountains. The smoke he employs alongside the clay sculptures does not have a set form, but rather abruptly appears and floats up, before slipping out of sight. The venue is always moving due to a newly born time and form that intersects with creativity and nature. It becomes like the site of a new kind of shamanism, reversing unmanageable nature and the desire to control it, and attempting to restore sacredness to nature that has been brought under control. This autumn, enjoy a landscape in motion at Spiral Garden.
