The “Lucas Cranach the Elder: 500 Years of the Power of Temptation” exhibition is currently being held at the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno, Tokyo, and from January 28, 2017, “Anti-Porno,” a film shot by Sion Sono as part of the “Roman porn Reboot” project, will premiere at Shinjuku Musashinokan and be released throughout Japan. Both the Cranach works on display and “Anti-Porno” express specific eras and cultural backgrounds, as well as existing as paintings and films in their own right. Similarly, both the work by Cranach and Sono pushes viewers to think about eros, the power of women, and the power of images.

For this event, film director Sion Sono and curator Atsushi Shinfuji will come together to discuss the “power” of these highly expressive works. It will be an opportunity to think about the power and strength of art, which is able to transcend the boundaries of genre, time and culture.
