Sayaka Motani
Rubaiyat was written by the Persian poet, philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer, Omar Khayyám in the 11th century, the golden age of Islam. His publication of this poetry was considered scandalous for its treatment of themes sensitive to conservative Islam. It took over 700 years before it would be translated into English, by Edward FitzGerald who published the work at his own expense. To celebrate the new translation of this work into Japanese a theatrical performance of the poetry is presented in both English and Japanese.
