The Egawa family was a merchant family involved in the forestry and shipping industry, making a significant contribution to the cultural developments of Nagasaki and the Osaka/Kyoto region. The fourth generation of this family, Tokusuke Egawa(1899-1976), pursued a great love of art whilst continuing the family business and following the war went on to collect treasures of art and craft through the formation of an art foundation and later the Egawa Museum of Art. Highlights of this collection include work of master ceramicist Chojiro, recognized as an important cultural property, the creations of Noami, and a fine array of tea utensils and Japanese paintings.
