Artists

Yozo Ukita
In 1954 a group of young artists based in the Kansai region formed the group “Gutai”. In the 1950s they took to experiments in performance and installation but struggled to make their work recognized as art. Yet in recent years there has been a reappreciation of 1950s-70s Japanese art and blockbuster exhibitions, such as the 2013 Guggenheim New York Gutai exhibition have won much acclaim. This exhibition follows in this win with an examination of the oil paintings of Yozo Ukita.
