3rd Year Students of Oil Painting, Tokyo University of The Arts
This exhibition will present work by 58 3rd year students of oil painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. Since 2012, 3rd year students have challenged themselves to hold an exhibition of their work at the end of the school year. A show produced entirely on their own. The title of this year’s exhibition is “Muni Muni,” a term they have coined that combines the meaning of three Japanese words: “shanimuni” meaning “reckless attitude,” “yuitsumuni” meaning “the one and only,” “muni muni” a word used to describe a soft material in the process of transformation. Overall the title “Muni Muni” echos a preference for the flexible and soft over the strong and hard. They believe that flexibility is as indispensable in artworks as bold individuality is.
