The Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava is the world’s largest competition for picture books. The organization was first founded in 1965 when Slovakia was still part of Czechoslovakia and the first competition held in 1967, making 2017 the 50th year of this special event. In a touring exhibition of this festival a reflection is held upon the importance of Japanese picture books over the last half century, while at the same time featuring winning works from the BIB2015 competition, as selected by leading jurors from submissions from over 50 countries around the world.
