Tokyo Frontline Photo Award was launched to discover and encourage the young talents of “photograph as a contemporary art” in 2011. Since its beginning, it has invited world-leading photographers such as Kishin Shinoyama and Takashi Homma, curators like Fumio Nanjo and Shihoko Iida, and contemporary philosophers, critics and contemporary artists including Masaya Chiba, Atsushi Sasaki and Kohei Nawa as judges. It has come to function as the most cutting-edge photo award in Japan and has accordingly put many excellent photo artists out into the world. This showcase displays works by each of the 19 artists shortlisted for the award in 2015, functioning not only as a final selection, but also giving the artists the opportunity to ramp up their photography careers.
