Yui Hayashi
Yui Hayashi was born in 1989 in Fukuoka prefecture and graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts. Now she lives and works in Tokyo. After graduation she focused on paintings with a tangible sense of humidity, featuring subjects like sea creatures, bathrooms, tangled hair, and eyeballs. She later moved on to works with an aggressive touch and a heavy use of extraneous, disorienting elements, or “noise.” Recently she has been painting single scenes from daily life in which this noise appears, revealing alternate realities.

To Hayashi, the moments in daily life that have a feeling of something special are a kind of “eternity.” She believes this “eternity,” a sudden visitor, must be treated with care, like a small pet. She paints to create an altered state of conscious, displaying moments demonstrating that it is possible for these multiple realities to co-exist.
