Artists

Kishin Shinoyama
Photographer Shinoyama Kishin’s career has spanned five decades. This exhibition, comprised of approximately 120 photographs hand-selected by the artist from his enormous body of work and printed on large panels, was specifically designed for the museum space.
Portraits of famous individuals lie at the heart of Shinoyama’s practice. The luminous appearance of actors, singers, athletes, writers, artists, musicians, dancers, kabuki performers, and models are conveyed to viewers through his photographs presented in magazines, photo books, and other media. It would be no exaggeration to say that because his works have been so widely circulated, they are seen as defining images of the era by viewers of all generations. Rather than being images limited to the size of a handheld book, however, the photographs in this exhibition, best measured in meters, promise to evoke vivid memories and transform the exhibition space into a venue for reunions and new encounters.
