Hiroshi Yoshida: The 140th Anniversary of His Birth

Chiba City Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Hiroshi Yoshida
Hiroshi Yoshida was an artist who continued to examine his place in the world throughout his life. He traveled across America and to London and Paris observing Eastern and Western art practices, and his body of work includes vibrant watercolor paintings of Japanese scenery, oil landscapes portraying the vastness of nature from the perspective of a mountain climber, and fresh interpretations of Ukiyo-e. On the 140th anniversary of the birth of this important artist called a “Japanese Western-style painter,” the Chiba City Museum of Art presents more than 300 of his works, including sketches for major pieces displayed publically for the first time. Some of the displayed works will be alternated during the exhibition.
