Ichiro Isobe + Ryuichiro Otake “Bionic Man”

Urano
Finished

Artists

Ichiro Isobe, Ryuichiro Otake
Ichiro Isobe has centered his practice upon delicate pencil drawings and sculptures incorporating the world map. In recent years he has come to produce moving image works which dislocate the meaning of children’s games such as shiritori and janken and allow for multiple interpretations. Ryuichiro Otake draws inspiration from films and book illustrations to produce sculpture, painting, video and performance. Many of these expressions bring to mind images of the end of the world and magic, hinting at the occult and a narcissistic despair, touching upon a universal human fear and instability.
Until now the two have also joined in collaborative work as part of the art group “KuHeV”. Concerned with the function of making something together, the union of many dissimilar parts, they have on this occasion created the “Bionic Man”. Here their styles and expressions criss-cross in a form of artificial, uncontrollable rule.
