The first major exhibition for Hiroshi Hirata, creator of masterpiece samurai and historical manga such as “Satsuma Gishiden,” “Kyudo Shikon,” and “Kuroda Sanjurokkei.” Hirata, who turns 80 in 2017, has established himself as a leader of the gekiga “dramatic pictures” genre during his six-decade career, producing powerfully illustrated works in publications such as Komikku Magazine. Hirata has also been involved in such renowned projects as Katsuhiro Otomo’s “Akira.” Discover the essence of his historically faithful, personally influenced works in this display of 300 of his illustrations.
