Artists

Suekichi Akabane
The author and illustrator Suekichi Akabane spent 15 years from age 22 in the northeastern part of China (formerly Manchuria). The vast expanses of nature and traditional culture of the place left a deep impression, and it was here that he began his career as an artist, seizing on the grand scale of the land and reflecting it in his picture books. This exhibition traces the trajectory of Akabane’s career, with a focus on his works set in China and Mongolia such as “Suho’s White Horse” and “The Dragon Fangs That Became a Star.”
