New Artists Today Exhibition 2016: Spaces of Creation― Mono-ha to the Art of Today

Yokohama Civic Art Gallery
Finished

Artists

Yoshishige Saito, Koji Enokura, Kishio Suga, Akiko Ikeuchi, Takayuki Suzuki
In 1964 Yokohama Civic Art Gallery hosted the first “Artists Today” exhibition, an annual event that for 40 years presented the diverse expressions of critic-selected Japanese contemporary artists and helped define Monon-ha, one of the most important contemporary movements. A 2016 show explores the possibilities of making and viewing art in a “place of creation” that unites Mono-ha and contemporary art, as seen in the works of original “Artists Today” exhibiters Yoshishige Saito and Koji Enokura, along with new pieces by Kishio Suga, Akiko Ikeuchi, and Takayuki Suzuki.
