Kenta Cobayashi
Born in 1992 in Kanagawa, Japan, Cobayashi is one of the most promising young Japanese photographers today, having received the grand prize at the Tokyo Frontline Photo Awards in 2015; the same year that Dutch independent curator Hester Keijser invited him to participate in the group exhibition “The Devil May Care.” Cobayashi’s “Island is Islands,” his exhibition planned with fashion designer Noriko Nakazato and Psychic VR Lab, also proved successful and experimented with the medium of visual live performance.
Capturing himself and the daily surroundings via digital camera, iPhone, PC, and screenshots, Cobayashi transforms these main motifs on Photoshop and other image editing tools. New images are created in collaboration with other artists and programmers and are then posted on his blog, SNS, or printed in zines. This exhibition shows the photo editing process recorded as a performance, alongside new prints and visual images.
