Art has always been closely linked with society and this is particularly true of contemporary art which reflects the shifts of our current age. In the final part of Tokyo Wonder Site’s Residence Program 2015-2016 series TWS joins in collaboration with art centers around the world to consider the role and challenges of their work.
Combining the functions of both public art institution and alternative art center TWS has continued to provide a “Creator in Residence” program over the last 10 years. Reflecting on this history and its contribution to international exchange TWS takes this opportunity to debate the difficulties facing art centers around the world with the reduction in budgets, the interference of politicians and the issues of censorship being just a few example of this. Throughout the exhibition guests from art centers from around the world will come together to discuss these challenges.
