Dutch Modern Design― Rietveld / Bruna / ADO

Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery
Finished

Artists

Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, Dick Bruna
Gerrit Thomas Rietveld(1888-1964) and Dick Bruna(1927) are revered as giants of design, hailing from Utrecht, the Netherlands. Rieveld carved out a career in furniture and architecture design, with such iconic works as the Rietveld Chair (1918-23) with its bright colors and geometric forms making it a pioneering form of 20th century design. Bruna on the other hand is known for that well-loved character Miffy. His use of simple forms to spin diverse stories also takes influence from Rietveld. While they might seem to have worked in different worlds their creations hold the connection of human expression, and this exhibition brings the two together, along with the toy series Ado.
