This event has ended.

Assemble, started in 2010, is a London-based group of 15 artists and architects taking a workshop centered approach to their activities. It was awarded the Turner Prize in 2015 for its Granby Four Streets project to revitalize the derelict Granby Streets area of Liverpool. Going beyond previous frameworks of architecture, the project defined an area between art and design called “speculative design,” incorporating design as a problem-solving method while approaching art as a means of raising social issues rather than of self-expression.
Assemble’s activities are rooted in the arts and crafts movement advocated by William Morris during England’s Industrial Revolution. Currently the diversity accompanied by the values of industrialism are being lost amid globalization and the prevalence of market principles in contemporary art. Assemble’s experimental approach, meanwhile is well received by society and acclaimed internationally.
