Taro Okamoto was an artist at the forefront of his era, always taking on one new challenge after the next. The Taro Okamoto Award is designed to bring into the spotlight the next generation of artists who continue to follow in the legacy of Okamoto’s spirit and with a freedom of perspective and imagination bring a keen message to the world. On this occasion 485 submissions were made from artists around the country and after a thorough review 23 have been selected here as representatives of the new potential of art in the 21st century.
