Nobuaki Ito
In video and installation works, Nobuaki Ito has been exploring issues of the body, life/death, and the spirit, all unavoidable subjects for human beings. His first exhibition at Waitingroom consists of two works: “A¯to (Art)”, a short video showing the artist talking about the “essence of art” in front of masterpieces, an art studio, and people looking at artwork. The other video, “Artist,” is a kind of mockumentary about the process of changing the mind of one woman unable to decide whether to become an artist or not. What changes her mind is shouting “Ten Statements for an Artist,” a set of remarks by 10 artists based on new employee training methods at Japanese companies. Two different Japan and Spain-based versions of “A¯to (Art)” and drawings related to “Artist” are exhibited.
