Denjiro Ide’s Phantom Photography Museum

Kanzan Gallery
Finished
The legend of this phantom photography museum started in what is now known as Katafuchi, Nagasaki City, dating from 1927 to 1942. Based around a commemorative photo shoot that took place in a modern western-style building, complete with climbing ivy plants and an arch of roses, it captured the longing of the female students that appeared in the photographs.
In this exhibition, the aesthetics of the Dejiro Ide, creator of this phantom museum, are explored through prints made from glass negatives discovered by Ide’s grandchild Chie Nemoto.
