Artists

Akira Yamaguchi
As the Equine Museum of Japan comes to mark its 40th anniversary, combined with 150 years since the opening of the Negishi Racecourse, a special exhibition of work from Akira Yamaguchi is unveiled. Yamaguchi is renowned for his mastery of a classical style of Japanese painting known as Yamato-e, whilst combining this with the motifs of cities, airports and stations which make up the scenes of our contemporary urban reality. Particular pieces in his oeuvre combine historic images of horse riding warriors, with that of motorbikes, in some cases featuring hybrids of animal and machine, and such works form the center of this exhibition.
