Collector Hideyuki Shimabayashi brings together seven artists, ranging from the internationally acclaimed to young emerging creators in their 20s, and working across different media including photography, video, painting and sculpture, to examine themes of the nuclear. With Japan’s heavy experiences of Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Fukushima, many artists have turned to related issues in their work, but this is the first time that a group exhibition directly tackling nuclear weapons and nuclear power disaster has been held. This exhibition crosses the space and time which separates the nuclear bombs which were dropped upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 and the nuclear accident of Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant in 2011 and attempts to tackle the history and conflict of nuclear power and war through art as seen through the eyes of many generations.
