Tetsuomi Tateishi
Born in Taiwan, Tetsuomi Tateishi (1905-1980) studied under Ryusei Kishida and Ryuzaburo Umehara in Japan before returning to Taiwan during the period of Japanese occupation. After the war he came to combine his scientific eye trained on the observation of insects with the warm heart he had cultivated in his homeland. This exhibition highlights how his hyper-real world cannot be detached from his memories of a beautiful Taiwan, whilst also examining his connections to the Tama district of Tokyo.
