Yasuyo Maruyama
Yasuyo Maruyama captures moments on camera revealing the beautiful and interesting gestures, actions, and appearances of friends and others close to her. She then seamlessly remakes these images into simplistic drawings, reproducing the unique traits and depth of expression of her subjects on canvas.

After spending a year in the southern part of the United States, the strong sunlight there has changed her impressions of her subjects themselves. She has begun depicting people in more abstract ways, drawing out the fundamental components of their beauty. Notably, the pupils of her subjects’ eyes now reflect a variety of colors they did not previously. These are not realistic images, they obscure lines of vision and present abstract forms.
