Emi Otaguro
Emi Otaguro’s work incorporates materials such as plaster, water, cardboard, chewing gum, and quail egg shells. She mains a two-dimensionality when creating her images, selecting materials to go along with the stories behind her creations.

This exhibition presents photographs of the “Sun Bath” chewing gum series. For these images, Otaguro has taken her chewing gum relief carvings and photographed them on the backs of live cats, completing these works when stray cats happen to visit her studio. She notes that cat hair is like a channel, encountering and carrying along dust, trash, and waste from the insides of living things. Like gazing at distant islands in ever-changing currents, these new works are created amid uncontrollable conditions.
