Documentary Film Screening “Japan Rediscovered— Yamanashi & Saitama Prefectures”

Intermediatheque
Finished

Artists

Noriaki Tsuchimoto, Masato Hanamatsu et al.
Yamanashi and Saitama prefectures were once dominated by agricultural land, but due to Tokyo’s sudden growth in the postwar era, they rapidly became economically dependent upon the capital. This film reconsiders this period of suburban expansion, in a time when “bedroom suburbs,” “infernal commuting” and “the capital’s feeding barns” appeared to characterize both prefectures, bringing a renewed focus on issues of living in such regions.
