Kei Imazu “Repatriation”

Yamamoto Gendai
Finished

Artists

Kei Imazu
The central work of this exhibition, also going under the same title, is one of Imazu’s most ambitiously scaled paintings to date and accompanies a series of depictions of the exhibits and the spaces of the Acropolis Museum in Greece, alongside a number of other plundered and ruined artifacts and artworks, utilizing images accumulated from the Internet, and painted upon canvas after digital editing. These objects of art are fragile in their precarious existence, but “affirmed” through painting, distorted and stretched in paint. This exhibition unveils Imazu’s approach to the “material” nature of artworks and the reconstruction of their imagery.
